In my last day of model lessons, I've been assigned to work several kindergarten classrooms - they saved the best for last. I have some experience with kindergarten-aged students, as those at the Brown School dubbed me Mr. Moonbeam because my seniors came downstairs to partner and act as little buddies. I've often joked that the only time I ever need a nap is when I am asked to work with kindergarten classes.
Well, here I am at it again. Two schools today, back to back, teaching a total of four classes. I've found a few good Dr. Seuss texts to help me make my case (for argumentative writing), and a whole set of informative texts on sports, colors, animals, occupations, and hobbies.
It occurred to me while running over the holidays, too, that "Let It Snow" might make a good song for writing informationally. So, I will be singing, "Let Us Know" as part of my schtick today.

Oh, the world outside is awesome,
And the more we know brings wisdom,
And since we all want to grow.
Let us know, let us know, let us know.
Most of our friends have questions,
and they need some help, suggestions,
We want to high five, high low…
Let us know, let us know, let us know.
When you think about your fingers
Hold them up and count to five
Look at them as zingers
to help the ideas come alive.
To inform, we teach, inspire
We share, we tell, inquire,
We model, we list, we show,
Let us know, let us know, let us know.
When you think about your fingers
Hold them up and count to five
Look at them as zingers
to help the ideas come alive.
Instruct us with your knowledge,
give pointers, note, encourage,
set all great thoughts aglow, &
Let us know, let us know, let us know.
WISH ME LUCK!
